Two people have been taken into custody in separate drug stings in 2018.
The stings date back to March 2018. Police say an undercover officer set up a deal with Derrick Shack, 41, whose address is listed as unknown, the afternoon of March 23. The officer and Shack allegedly met at S.T. Morrison Park in Coralville, where Shack sold the officer two small bags of heroin for $100.
Police say the substance was tested and came back positive as heroin.
A little less than a month later, Shack and an undercover officer again met at the park, where he allegedly sold the officer an eighth-ounce of crack cocaine for $280. Again, that substance later tested positive as the drug.
In a separate case, an undercover officer met with 33-year-old Mark Poggenpohl at Pepperwood Plaza in Iowa City on May 31 and bought a quarter-ounce of methamphetamine for $350. Police say they had initially been in contact with a female co-defendant of Poggenpohl but she sent him alone.
Poggenpohl faces one Controlled Substance Violation and up to 25 years in prison while Shack is charged with two Controlled Substance Violations and the possibility of up to 20 years in prison.
