An accused drunk driver faces an additional criminal charge after he allegedly drank water in defiance of police orders.

22-year-old Leonardil Lambert Sula of Miller Avenue was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated just after 2am Sunday near the corner of Court and Capitol Streets. The arresting officer took Sula to the Iowa City Police station on East Washington Street, where he was allowed to use the restroom.

Police say Sula entered the restroom and began drinking water from the sink. He was told to stop, and when Sula asked why he was told he would only be allowed to urinate.

Sula began arguing that he should be allowed to drink water, and after he was finished urinating he walked back to the sink and again began drinking from the faucet. He was told to stop multiple times, began arguing, and was handcuffed and removed from the restroom to prevent him from drinking more water.

In addition to the OWI charge Sula now faces an additional count of Interference with Official Acts. If convicted he faces a maximum of an additional 30 days in jail.
