Longtime Hawkeye play-by-play man Jim Zabel has died.

Zabel died Thursday at the age of 91.

Dubbed the “Voice of Iowa,” Zabel spent 65 years on WHO radio and television. He was behind the microphone for almost every Iowa football and basketball game for 50 years, including five Rose Bowls.

Zabel replaced Ronald Reagan when he joined WHO in 1944. He was named to the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
