A West Liberty woman is accused of assaulting and injuring Iowa City police officers.

Iowa City Police were called to The Fieldhouse bar on the Ped Mall just after 1:15 Sunday morning for a woman being restrained by staff. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Lizette Garcia of the Mobile Village manufactured housing community on East A Street, was detained by police. As the investigation was ongoing, Garcia allegedly tried to pull away, then reportedly began kicking an officer in the legs and lower abdomen. Garcia was taken to the ground and arrested by force. Officers sustained lacerations to their forearms and hands.

Garcia is charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Causing Injury, Interference With Official Acts, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of over three years in jail.
