Trial date set for Iowa City suspect accused of sexually abusing children

A trial date has been set for an Iowa City man accused of sexually abusing children.
On Friday, Judge David Cox set a September 3rd trial date for 43-year-old Munga Sapo of the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community. Sapo is accused of sexually abusing boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 15. During the investigation into those charges, child pornography was also allegedly found on his cellphones. Sapo is also accused of assaulting and threatening to kill his wife and children.
Sapo is charged with eight counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse, three counts of 1st Degree Harassment, two counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, and one count each of Possession of the Depiction of a Minor in a Sex Act, Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, Assault With Intent to Commit Serious Injury, and Child Endangerment.
If convicted on all charges, Sapo faces a maximum sentence of 236 years in prison.
A case management conference is set for July 19th.
