An Illinois man is accused of leading Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase down Interstate 80.

Arrest records indicate a deputy observed a 2014 Infiniti Q50 with exceedingly loud exhaust and another vehicle traveling at 120 miles per hour on westbound I-80 near the Oxford exit just before 12:30 Sunday morning. A traffic stop was attempted, but the two vehicles ignored lights and sirens and continued at a high rate of speed. The Infiniti, which at one point during the chase allegedly shut off its lights, finally stopped near the Williamsburg exit.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Saalim Shaikh of Chicago, is charged with Felony Eluding and four different traffic and equipment violations. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
