A sex offender living in Johnson County is accused of lying about his whereabouts despite being fitted with a GPS monitor.

56-year-old Dale Sexton of rural Oxford was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 11:15 Friday morning. According to arrest records, Sexton had a parole hearing set for 10:00 last Monday morning that required him to appear in-person. Sexton allegedly reported at 9:23 a.m. that he needed to go to the emergency room. At 9:52, a parole officer told him to provide medical discharge paperwork from the hospital visit. Sexton did not report back, so the officer began tracking him with his GPS monitor. Just after 2:00 that afternoon, the device showed Sexton was at his home, and he was told to report to the parole office. Sexton allegedly didn’t reply until 10:13 that night, saying he was going to the pharmacy to get medicine.

The tracking device reportedly showed Sexton go to a gas station, Walmart, and an Iowa City residence that was not his…but not a pharmacy.

The next day, Sexton allegedly ignored more orders to report to the parole office.

Sexton is now charged with a parole violation. He has a case management conference scheduled for August 5th on a Sex Offender Registry Violation. He was convicted of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse in Linn County in 2008, with his victim listed as a girl between the ages of 14 and 17.
