An Iowa City man faces assault and criminal mischief charges after an alleged altercation at his residence.

Shortly after midnight Thursday, it is alleged that 30-year-old Alex Llamas of Hickory Court assaulted the victim during an argument inside the victim’s vehicle.  According to the police report, Llamas grabbed the victim by the throat and applied pressure. He also reportedly injured the victim’s arm while grabbing it.

During the altercation, Llamas allegedly destroyed the vehicle’s center console by striking it multiple times. Estimated damage to the vehicle was approximately $3000.

Llamas was taken into custody and charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury and 2nd degree Criminal Mischief.  If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested and granted between Llamas and the victim. He was released on his own recognizance later in the day and will be arraigned at a later date.
