Iowa City man arrested for series of liquor thefts

An Iowa City man was arrested after he allegedly committed a series of liquor thefts at the downtown Target location.

According to the criminal complaints, 48-year-old Paris Alexander of South Dodge Street went into the store just before 7pm on May 22nd and stole a bottle of Hennessey liquor worth about $40.

Alexander reportedly returned twice and committed additional thefts on May 30th .

At around 12:30pm, surveillance video allegedly showed Alexander taking another bottle of liquor worth nearly $64, along with two 25-ounce cans of beer worth nearly $7. Alexander and an unnamed female suspect put the items in the woman’s backpack, and she gave the backpack to Alexander.  He reportedly walked out of the store without attempting to pay for the items.

Less than a half hour later, Alexander allegedly returned and stole a bottle of tequila worth about $69 and exited without paying.

Criminal records reportedly show Alexander with two previous theft convictions.

A warrant was issued, and Alexander was taken into custody Tuesday. He faces three counts of  3rd degree theft and could be sentenced to up to six years in prison if convicted on all charges.
