A Hope House resident who failed to return from a trip to Walmart last month has been located and returned to custody.

Police say 47-year-old Joseph Barnes signed out at 9am on May 22nd, with a listed return time of 10am. Barnes failed to return to Hope House and his whereabouts were unknown until Tuesday, when he was located and taken to the Johnson County Jail to be booked on Voluntary Escape charges.

Barnes originally pleaded a first degree Theft charge down to 3rd degree and was given a two year suspended sentence on June 19th last year. Records show Barnes had missed several court dates and warrants were issued for his arrest five times since he was arrested on January 15th 2023.

He faces up to a year in jail on the Voluntary Escape charge.
