A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested after allegedly setting his own apartment on fire.

The Gazette reports 45-year-old Jeremy Lang lit a fire in his bedroom closet Saturday night. His apartment is part of a two-story, eight-unit apartment building on the 1400 block of Center Point Road SE

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to Lang’s apartment, but the building had to be ventilated to remove the smoke.  No one was injured, although other people were in the building when Lang allegedly started the fire.

Lang has a previous felony conviction for arson after reportedly pouring gasoline on a porch and setting it on fire back in 2020. He reached a plea deal and had the charges downgraded to second degree arson. He was sentenced to three years of supervised probation.  Lang now faces a first degree arson charge and could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
