A Coralville man has been fined for his part in a Christmas morning shots fired incident near downtown Iowa City.
21-year-old Bhupi Singh of 6th Avenue entered a guilty plea to a Reckless Use of a Firearm charge on Wednesday. As part of a plea deal, a more serious charge of Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Crime was dropped. Singh was fined $105.
Singh was one of three suspects accused of recklessly discharging firearms just before 2:15 last Christmas morning outside an apartment building on the 500 block of East Burlington Street. The incident, which was caught on video, triggered a HawkAlert from the University of Iowa.
The other two suspects in the case, 25-year-old Satnam Singh and 22-year-old Gupreet Singh, both live in the same building where the incident occurred. They also both face the same charges as Bhupi Singh. If convicted on both charges, the Singhs each face a maximum of 25 months in jail.
Satnam Singh skipped his arraignment and is currently at-large. Gupreet Singh has a motion to dismiss hearing set for June 28th.
