A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody after reportedly burglarizing homes and garages in the northwest portion of the city.
According to a release from the CRPD, the Joint Communication Department received several calls at approximately 6:40am Sunday reporting homes and garages were being entered by an unknown individual: all describing the same person.
Officers arrived on-scene and began to track-but did not find the individual. Officers then received a report from the same area that a vehicle was stolen from a garage.
That vehicle was spotted almost three hours later and was recovered in the 2700 block of Bever Ave SE. 25-year-old Robert Griffin was identified as the driver and taken into custody by officers.
He faces charges of 2nd and 3rd degree Burglary, 1st degree Theft, 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, Driving while Suspended, Eluding, and several other traffic violations. If convicted on all charges, Griffin faces a prison term of up to 30 years.
Griffin also faces a prison sentence of up to 14 years from a March incident where he was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, and 1st degree Harassment. A case management conference is scheduled for May 16th with trial set for June 18th.
