An Iowa City woman wanted for allegedly burglarizing a Southside convenience store has been arrested.
Police say just after 3:30 am on April 15th, officers responded to a burglary alarm at Up In Smoke on Broadway Street . Upon arrival, the glass door to the business had been smashed open with a brick.
A review of security footage identified 35-year-old Tamira Johnson as the suspect. She was seen entering the store at the time of the burglary alarm, stealing seven cartons of cigarettes, and leaving the store.
The cigarettes are valued at $350, while replacing the glass door is estimated to cost $900.
Johnson was already wanted after failing to appear on charges of 5th degree Theft and Trespass on April 9th. A warrant for her arrest on the alleged convenience store burglary was issued on April 19th.
Johnson was arrested Tuesday. She faces 3rd degree counts of Burglary, Theft and Criminal Mischief. If convicted on those charges, she could be sentenced to up to 9 years in prison. The previous 5th degree Theft charge comes with a maximum 30 day jail sentence.
