An Iowa City man is accused of threatening bystanders with a gun while walking his dog near the Ped Mall.

Multiple witnesses reported around 6:45 Friday night that 53-year-old Justin Meade of East Washington Street had pointed a gun at them near the intersection of Washington and Dubuque Streets. Arriving officers say they located Meade carrying a .22 caliber pellet gun that was folded on a rack. Witnesses say when they asked Meade what the gun was for, he responded, “For killing people” as he pointed it at them.

Meade is charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
