Lake MacBride drowning victim’s identity released

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the woman who drowned at Lake MacBride over the weekend.

The victim is identified as 21-year-old Makeda Scott of Iowa City. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the lake just after 5:30 Sunday night for an individual who had gone under the water near a watercraft and didn’t resurface. Responding units attempted to locate Scott and the search was suspended around 9:00 p.m.

Recovery efforts resumed at approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday, and Scott’s body was located at 12:10 p.m.  The body has been turned over to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Department for an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
